The ‘Novi Sad – European Capital of Culture’ Foundation, within the residential programme for artists and cultural workers, launches:
OPEN CALL
for the selection of artists who work in the field of visual arts and literature and are willing to participate in the artistic residence in Novi Sad during May and June of 2022.
As a demonstration of empathy for all victims of warfare and promotion of peace as the main message at this moment, the Foundation launches the open call for artists to stay and continue to create their artworks in Novi Sad, this year’s European Capital of Culture. The residence would be part of the ‘Fortress of Peace’ programme arch during June and July of 2022 and would focus on the consequences of war and the importance of promoting peace policy.
All artists who work in the field of visual arts or literature and who hold Ukrainian citizenship have the right to participate. The selected artists will have a chance to stay in residence for up to two months.
If possible, all interested candidates should send their short biography and portfolio.
Documentation should be sent to: international@ns2022.rs. Deadline for application: 7 May 2022.
The Foundation’s accommodation facilities include a flat where 2 artists or a smaller family could stay. The selection of candidates will be made based on the following criteria:
– The space accessibility for the residential stay (two-bedroom flat in the Novi Sad centre);
– Proven activities in the field of visual arts and literature.
Travel costs, accommodation and per diem for the selected artist are covered.
The residence is being implemented within the ‘Fortress of Peace’ programme arch, which promotes and explores the culture of peace and togetherness. Furthermore, it is an integral part of the programme arch that includes programmes making it possible to discuss conflicts and post-conflict societies through a prism of ordinary citizens, students and experts. It also includes programmes about experiences of European and non-EU countries in conflict resolution within their borders and/or conflicts with the neighbouring countries.
The selected artists should implement the work during their residence, but this criterion is not mandatory.
The ‘Artist in Residence’ programme of the ‘Novi Sad – European Capital of Culture’ Foundation has existed since 2017 and deals with the organisation of residential programmes for foreign artists in Serbia, and with the organisation of residential programmes for Novi Sad and Serbian artists in residential centres across Europe. The topic of the residence is always closely connected with the ‘Novi Sad – European Capital of Culture’ programme.
